Healing Shannox

Summary

Shannox is a 2 phase fight with different healing needs in each phase.  In addition to the healing duties outlined below, it is critical for healers to watch his/her surroundings to step out of traps and the spiral of fire that comes out when Shannox throw his spear.

  • Phase 1: Shannox and his two dogs are all alive.  The main tank takes Shannox.  The off tank tanks Riplimb.  Rageface roams free (no true aggro table).  Both tanks will be getting stacks of Jagged Tear which does contant damage to the tanks until cleared.  The main tank and off tank are separated by significant distance as part of the mechanic to hopefully clear the stacks of Jagged Tear.
  • Phase 1 to Phase 2 Transition: Rageface is killed first (focus fire from all DPS).  Then DPS splits between Shannox and Riplimb.  Shannox is brought to approximately 35% and then Riplimb is killed (should be close).
  • Phase 2:  When both dogs are dead, damage from Shannox is greatly increased.  He will continue to throw his spear for raid-wide damage (much more than phase 1) and the damage on the tank will be increased.  It’s now a dps / healing race to burn him down before we can’t keep up with the heals.

This is currently a 7 to 8 minute fight for us.

Healing Assignments

  • Tank Healer
  • Off Tank (Riplimb tank) Healer
  • Raid Healer

Tank Healer

  • The main tank takes twice as much damage in this fight compared to the off tank.  Therefore, the main tank healer will need to be a strong single target healer.
  • Watch your range on the tank.  At some point the tank will shift the boss to avoid traps and you don’t want to go out of range.
  • Watch the Jagged Tear debuff stacks on the tank.  It will indicate how much damage they will take and help you plan your healing.
  • Damage will ramp up considerably in phase 2.  Regen mana before this phase if possible, and use coolowns at this point.
  • The raid healer will help heal the main tank in phase 1, and the off tank healer will generally help heal the main tank in phase 2.
  • During phase 2, help out with any raid healing / damage reduction cooldowns if possible, but without jeopardizing the main tanks health.

Off Tank Healer

  • The off tank takes less damage in this fight compared to the main tank.  However, based on the number of stacks of Jagged Tear, decent single target healing is needed.
  • Watch your range on the tank.  Significant movement is necessary throughout the fight while the dog runs for the spear.  Also try to position yourself in the middle of the raid to help with raid healing when the spear is thrown.
  • Watch the Jagged Tear debuff stacks on the tank.  It will indicate how much damage they will take and help you plan your healing.
  • The off tank healer will generally help heal the main tank in phase 2.  Damage on the main tank is very high at this point.
  • Also during phase 2, help out with any raid healing / damage reduction cooldowns if possible.

Raid Healer

  • For the most part Raid healing is pretty light in phase 1 and very well timed.  Stay in range of the main tank and help heal them in between raid healing.
  • When Shannox throws his spear everyone will take 20 – 30K damage.  A spiral of flames goes out at this time from the initial red circle indicating where the spear will go.  If caught in the flames, raiders will take more damage.  This is easy to heal back up and you have time to do so.
  • Rageface will periodically do his “Face Rage” on someone.  It’s helpful to have raid frames set up to see who is being face raged.  They will need quick heals (single target); however, if dps is doing their job, this shouldnt’ last long at all.  Get their health back up afterward.
  • Rageface will also do some general damage to random players.  Keep an eye out for this.
  • When phase 2 starts, you are on full time raid heals.  The raid damage will be very heavy.  The spiral of flames will still be coming out (more often I think), so you while cranking out the heals in this phase, you still need to dodge the flames.
  • Use your cooldowns in Phase 2.
  • Use your mana regen to allow you to have high mana at the start of phase 2.

Spells / Debuffs

Jagged Tear“Deals 3000 damage every 3 sec for 30 sec. Stacks”.  It is important to be able to see the number of stacks on the tanks.  As the stacks increase, the healing demands will increase.  Make adjustments to your healing spell choices based on the number of stacks on your target.
